Our Children’s Web team was treated to a day of “learning and lunch” at Chick-fil-A headquarters last week. Anyone who knows me well (OK, anyone who knows me at all) knows I’m a huge fan of Chick-fil-A — the chicken and the company. (I submit without apology the video below as irrefutable proof.)

What a great day. Austin Williams, a member of the Chick-fil-A Interactive Digital Marketing team, generously spent the morning sharing some secrets behind Chick-fil-A’s digital and social strategy with our team. I came away energized and challenged. But I was also reaffirmed in our direction as well. The challenges, opportunties and excitement about the next big thing are somewhat similar whether you’re selling chicken nuggets or marketing pediatric healthcare.

Then there’s Chick-fil-A the company. The corporate campus is unbelievable. The employees are as nice as the ones you meet in the drive thru’s (“My pleasure”). And don’t get me started about the free milkshakes! All of it is a testament to the life and faith of founder Truett Cathy and the entire Cathy family.

Looking forward to implementing some of the takeaways from our day at Chick-fil-A. And now I’m hungry.

OK, I’m sticking with this one.

Since moving my web site to a WordPress platform over a year ago, I’ve tinkered with numerous themes, widgets and what-nots. I’m done. I’m happy. I’m moving on with my life.

Besides, I haven’t been practicing what I do for clients—concentrate on building unique and useful content. The look-and-feel of a site is important, sure. You want to represent yourself professionally and appropriately. But content is what sets you apart. Search engine spiders and human customers can’t be fooled (for long) by pretty layouts and fancy fonts.

So, I’m done tinkering with the look of this site. Thank you RedTime WordPress theme for setting me free. Time to get back to producing great web content, communicating via social media (and other digital channels) and connecting with customers—for DaveSchaefer.com and my clients.
